A short story about one’s inner journey when embarking out on the open road and all the promise that lies ahead. . . . . .

The snow lays a blanket

The mist parts to reveal the road ahead,

Through the clouds, I see the space,

I’m the lord of what I survey

In sleep was when I made dreams

Dreams of the open road ahead,

Now, dreams have possibility

Possibility and promise of what could come

I’m going away for a long time

Although my spirit left long ago

I let my soul die in an urban prison

Now, I am free for these shackles

I remember tales of travellers past

Of adventures in far away lands

Seeing, tasting, discovering and exploring

Across great pastures, through woods,

Overseas and snow-covered fields

A took a little journey to the unknown

To come back changed,

The road has been my friend,

Guiding me to a new world

I follow the darkness into light

I say good bye to who I was

I don’t look back in fear tonight

I feel the truth reveal itself in the open road
